Watch Top Local Chefs compete for best local dish using ingredients found in the farmers’ market. October 4, 2009 WORKSHOP: BACKYARD FRUIT GROWING AND TASTING Harvest LUSCIOUS, ORGANIC, HEALTHFUL FRUITS from LOW MAINTENANCE and ORNAMENTAL plants growing right in your own BACKYARD. This workshop will cover what fruits are best and easiest to grow, and how to grow them. Participants will also taste delectable fruits such as pawpaws, persimmons, and hardy kiwifruit. October 3, 2009 Name of Event: RVGA Harvest Dinner and Square Dance Fundraiser September 26, 2009 COMING THIS FALL On Saturday September 26, Phillies Bridge Farm Project, Inc. will sponsor an Art & Silent Auction, at 2:00 p.m. The purpose of this event is to support our growing adult and children’s education programs, as well as to provide funding for improvement of the farm’s infrastructure. This year we had 25 attendees at our canning and preserving classes and more than 100 children at our summer camp. BENEFITS OF AUCTION CLEAR OUR PROGRAMS This year saw the addition of many new educational programs. Most popular of these was “Growing Together,” designed for preschool-age children and their parents. Along with the continued restoration of farm buildings, the farm project opened its educational pavilion, a large covered space which allows programs to continue during inclement weather. This year we added convertible work/bench tables. Funds for this building and equipment were raised entirely from public donations and from the 2008 auction. Phillies Bridge Farm currently provides educational programs for schools, food for the needy (Family of New Paltz), and for local food banks (Healthy Start Kingston). NEW PARTNERS AND OLD CONTRIBUTE ART Live Auction offerings include paintings from COTA (Celebration of the Arts) This year we are featuring many new artists including Kevin Cook, John Varriano, Stacie Flint, Catherine Gray, Marlene Weidenbaum and Masha Massih. In addition, we have received donations from members, including Elizabeth Mowry, internationally known pastel artist, and Kevin Cook, “new” YUMM YUMM TREATS You can taste appetizers and other treats prepared by people who care about food. Artists, board members and volunteers have prepared an array of finger foods to accompany complimentary wine and other beverages. AND IT’S FREE FOR ALL The Phillies Bridge Auction will be held Saturday, September 26, Rain or Shine, from 2:00 – 5:00 p.m. in the education pavilion on MANY NEW AND VINTAGE ITEMS This year we have added new items to this auction, such as Huguenot Rum, antique furniture, over 20 certificates to local food establishments, rounds of golf, baskets of jams and jellies, outings and again offer organic lamb from our own herd. Special items include a sight seeing flight over the area, lunch at the C.I.A., photo session with Michael Gold and bottles of bourbon, rye and rum from Tuttletown Distillery. LOCAL INGREDIENT CHILI CHALLENGE
On Saturday, January 30th from 12PM to 3PM, Water Street Market will hold its second annual local ingredient chili cook-off. We will be taking up to 25 participants who need to make 3 gallons of their best chili incorporating at least three local ingredients. There is no cost to enter and ingredients can include local tomatoes, peppers, honey, beer, beef, turkey to name a few. The chili will be judged in several categories such as best vegetarian, best meat, people's choice, best professional (local restaurants, chefs) and best overall. Judges this year are Joan Fall of The Bistro Mountain Store, Ray Bradley of Bradley Farms and a surprise local celebrity judge.
Water Street will be selling tickets for tastes of two ounce portions to the public and all proceeds will go to St. Joseph's Food Pantry. Last year the event raised over $1,000!

March 14th, where the community may enjoy chocolate chip or blueberry pancakes as well as regular pancakes, eggs, sausage, bacon, and real maple syrup. Much of the food, including the maple syrup, comes from local farmers.The Rosendale Farmers Market will continue through the winter once a month inside the Rosendale Community Center (1055 Rt. 32, Rosendale, NY 12472). Winter market days will be on Sundays, 10 AM to 2 PM, on the following dates: December 6th, January 3rd, February 7th, March 7th, April 11th and May 2nd. Every market includes free coffee, tea or hot cocoa, and live acoustic music. Customers are welcome to shop, grab a cup of joe, and relax for a while!

6/7 - The Great Plant Swap and Sale! As you get your garden ready for spring this year, don’t forget to put aside some plants for the 10th Annual Cornell Cooperative Extension of Ulster County Master Gardeners Great Plant Swap and Sale taking place Saturday, June 7 in the pavilion near the Forsythe Nature Center at Forsythe Park located on Lucas Avenue in Kingston. Plants to swap can be dropped off on Saturday morning between 9:00am and 10:00am. Swappers will receive vouchers for the number of plants they drop off. And then return at 11:00am to swap vouchers for plants! At 11:30 the swap will open to the public for sale. Plants must be labeled by name and color of flower, in pots, well cared for, healthy and not on the New York State list of Invasive plants. Master Gardeners will refuse any plants not meeting these criteria. Master Gardener volunteers will also be answering gardening questions and have lots of gardening information available. So, pot up your divisions or extra plants a few weeks before the swap date, label them, and bring them to exchange for vouchers. Work is currently being accepted for the inaugural exhibit, with an opening reception on Saturday June 6th from 4:00-6:00pm.
Exhibits are expected to rotate quarterly and each will have a theme, thus providing the farm with another dynamic avenue to bring together the community in support of sustainable agriculture and art.
The theme for the summer 2009 exhibit is INSPIRATION: How do food, farmers, or nature inspire and motivate?
